Battery Backup & Virtual Power Plant (VPP)
PJ Solar is working with Gary “G Money” to help homeowners explore battery backup and a virtual power plant program through a Palmetto battery lease.
Battery-only subscription
Already have solar—or just interested in battery storage? Ask about the battery-only subscription G Money describes, designed to use lower-cost electricity and reduce how much power you buy during expensive peak hours.
Charge during the day. Use stored power at night.
In G Money’s explanation, the battery charges during the day, then supplies power in the evening and overnight. The goal is to shift electricity use away from higher on-peak utility rates while adding backup power for outages.
Potential savings: up to 40% annually
G Money’s video presents potential annual savings of up to 40%, using an example of roughly 10,000 kWh of electricity use. He describes a possible reduction from about 40¢ to 19¢ per kWh under the program. These are the program examples discussed in his video; your home’s proposal determines your actual rate, subscription cost and estimated savings.
What does “virtual power plant” mean?
A virtual power plant connects participating home batteries into a coordinated network. Ask PJ and G Money how participation works for your utility and how the battery is managed for daily use and backup.
Backup when the power goes out
The battery also provides an opportunity to keep selected household loads powered during an outage. The equipment and system design determine what can run and for how long.
Find out what fits your home
Contact PJ with your city, electric utility, recent power bill and whether you already have solar. PJ and G Money can discuss the Palmetto lease, battery-only options and a proposal for your home.
