Pigeons on the roof? Start by finding out whether they are resting on a ridge, roosting on a ledge or nesting beneath your solar panels. Keeping pigeons off a roof means addressing the places they use: suitable bird spikes can deter landing on selected surfaces, while fitted solar mesh closes entry beneath panels. Cleanup deals with the droppings and nesting debris already there. One service does not automatically cover all three problems.
PJ Solar Cleaning & Bird Proofing helps homeowners across Southern California, with selected Nevada and Arizona appointments. This guide draws on our roof, bird-spike and solar-panel exclusion work. Request a roof pigeon assessment or call 760-590-8516.
Why do pigeons keep coming back to my roof?
A roof can provide a landing place and a sheltered nesting area at the same property. Watch from the ground: do the pigeons sit along the ridge, gather around a chimney or disappear beneath the solar panels? That difference matters. Cleaning a visible mess does not close an entry point, and a deterrent on one ledge does not protect an open solar-array perimeter.
How to keep pigeons off your roof
- Identify the activity. Note where birds land and where they disappear. Take photos from a safe position on the ground.
- Assess nesting and cleanup. Inspect the occupied spaces and accumulated droppings before installing a barrier. Do not seal birds or young inside.
- Match the protection to the location. Address suitable perching surfaces with a properly fitted deterrent and solar-panel entry gaps with compatible perimeter mesh.
- Inspect the finished work and maintain it. Check edges, corners, roof contours and existing protection. Arrange follow-up inspection after roof or solar work disturbs the installation.
Our assessment separates roof pigeon deterrents, under-panel pigeon exclusion and cleanup so you know what the estimate includes. We discuss the birds and any occupied nesting areas before work begins.

Pigeons on roof ridges, chimneys and ledges
For pigeons landing on suitable roof ridges, chimney surrounds or wood gable ledges, PJ Solar assesses bird spike installation. The width and shape of the landing surface affect the layout. Our installation photos show tile roofs, composition-shingle ridges and ledges. These are specific perching areas; a few strips of spikes do not create a barrier around the whole roof.
Pigeons nesting under solar panels
If pigeons go beneath the panels, the array needs an entry-point assessment. PJ Solar uses Bird-B-Gone mesh and compatible clips, fitted around the exposed perimeter, including corners, conduit and the roof profile. Existing nesting debris and droppings are assessed separately. Read our guide to getting rid of pigeons under solar panels and see the solar panel bird-proofing service.
Material compatibility and installation details matter. Follow the requirements for the specific panel model and avoid drilling into panel frames. Electrical repairs or panel removal, when needed, require the appropriate qualified professional.
Pigeon droppings on roof tiles and in gutters
A clean panel surface does not tell you what is underneath. PJ Solar assesses pigeon-waste buildup on the roof and beneath the array, along with debris in roof valleys and gutters. Panel-glass cleaning, under-panel cleanup and gutter and roof-valley cleaning are different parts of the job. Heavy buildup or restricted access changes the scope.

On one documented Victorville job, our crew removed approximately 28 bags of waste and debris during a two-day cleanup. See the original project and photos. Your property needs its own assessment; that job is an example of why cleanup should be included in the conversation.
Why are pigeons still on the roof after bird proofing?
A solar-panel barrier protects the space beneath the array. Pigeons may still land on another part of the roof. If birds are actually getting underneath again, inspect the mesh for openings, loose clips, corners that do not follow the roof profile, or disturbance from later roof or solar work. Our bird mesh repair and replacement service evaluates what can be repaired and what needs replacing.
Do bird spikes, mesh and scare devices do the same thing?
No. Bird spikes address selected landing surfaces; mesh provides a physical barrier to the space beneath solar panels. A visual scare device does not close an entry gap or remove nesting debris. Choose the approach after identifying the birds’ actual activity. Bird-B-Gone explains the intended uses of its bird spikes and solar panel exclusion mesh.
How much does roof pigeon proofing cost?
PJ Solar inspects the property before quoting bird proofing. The estimate depends on the areas to protect, exposed solar-array perimeter, roof slope and access, roof material, existing barriers and cleanup needs. Include your city, roof type and photos when requesting an appointment. Our five-year solar bird-proofing labor warranty requires annual cleaning and inspection by PJ Solar, subject to the written terms.
